| Q. |
Why would I want to buy from Columbus PaperBox? |
| A. |
Want lots of abuse and neglect? Don't care what you get? Willing to
pay through the nose for it? Then you don't want to do business with us! |
| Q. |
What the heck is a folding carton, anyway? |
| A. |
Folding cartons start out as paperboard sheets. The sheets get
printed, then cut and scored into blanks that bend and fold. Add lines
or spots of glue and VIOLA! You have a folding carton. Isn't technology
great? |
| Q. |
Do I want a folding carton or a corrugated box? |
| A. |
If you need packaging both to sell your product and protect it on
retail store shelves, you'll want a folding carton. To protect the
carton (and your product) in shipping, you'll need a corrugated box. |
Folding cartons are made from a single layer of board measured in
thousandths of inches (.018, .024, etc.). Corrugated boxes are
constructed from multi-ply layers and are measured by flutes (B, C, E,
etc.) and bursting strength. |
If your specs name alphabet-soup terms like RTN, CCNB, PLB or SBS, you
have a folding carton. You need us. Should the specs show terms like RSC,
ECT or FOL, you have a corrugated box. You don't need us. But that
doesn't mean we don't care. |

If you're still unclear, contact us. You're
not alone. |
| Q. |
What do you need to quote my carton? |
| A. |
Cash and sporting-event tickets are appreciated, but usually the
carton's measurements (see below), its style, board type and board
thickness, number of colors (if printed), and quantity desired. Don't
sweat it - we can walk you through the process. |
Have a sample? Please submit it. Seeing a sample answers lots of
questions. If you're looking for a "special construction",
we'll need either a sample or spec. diagram unless you truly want an
inaccurate, meaningless quote. |
| Q. |
How do I measure a carton? |
| A. |
Cartons are measured in three dimensions: length, width and
depth. First, measure the opening's longest dimension. That's the
length. Second, measure the shorter dimension off the opening. That's
the width. Finally, measure from the top of the front panel to its
bottom. That's the depth. |
| Q. |
Can you design a carton for me? |
| A. |
We live to serve. Check out the carton styles page for some ideas. |
There three styles: tubes, trays, and "special
constructions". Tubes are folded squares or
rectangles glued on an overlapping flap, with covers hinged on the ends.
Trays have solid bottoms and are glued in the corners or along the
longest sides. They have an attached cover or a cover formed separately.
Everything else is "special construction". |
| Q. |
What are "special constructions"? |
This is a "catch-all" category for unusual designs.
Packaging like counter displays, brochure
holders, envelopes, and pillow packs. You get the idea, right? |
| Q. |
Do you carry "something close" in stock? |
| A. |
Ah.....the seven words that freeze our blood. We're a custom job shop, meaning we make
everything to customer request. All tooling is customer-owned. If we
could use someone else's cutting die for your work (which we can't),
it's impossible to hunt for "something close" as all dies are
filed by customer, not size or style. So there. |
| Q. |
Can I get my order next week? |
| A. |
Like many good things in life, cartons are worth waiting for. |
On new printed work, delivery is 4 weeks after we receive your art -
if there are no delays on proof approvals. Leads can shorten on repeat work, especially on unprinted, short runs
of 5000 - 10,000 pieces. |
| Q. |
Do you have a graphic artist on staff? How do I create and submit art? |
| A. |
We have a staff artist. But as most customers shy away from Jake, the
doodling chimp, we can make recommendations or steer you in the right
direction. |
As for art submission, we'll fax you a sheet that tells all. Just
ask! |
